TV Nunavut will be an educational broadcast service providing television programming in Inuktut to Nunavummiut.
WHY DO WE NEED A TV NUNAVUT?
For a language to survive and thrive, it is important that it be spoken in the home, school and workplace. TV Nunavut aims to address the concerns of Nunavut’s parents, teachers, politicians, TV producers and community organizations about the inadequate amount of Inuit language programming available on television and other forms of media.
While some Inuktitut and Nunavut-based programming does exist on networks such as CBC and APTN, there is not nearly enough to counter the influence of ever-increasing southern TV and Internet in Nunavut homes.
HOW WILL TV NUNAVUT SERVE NUNAVUMMIUT?
By adopting a territory-wide education broadcasting model, TVNU will encourage active citizenship, public engagement, community input and the use of Inuktut.
TVNU will be a community-driven broadcaster, providing programming that simultaneously educates and presents issues from a local and global perspective.
